Navigation
Datoteka navigation is possible via the main menu, toolbar or keyboard shortcuts. Datoteka have three main perspectives:
- Two-page perspective similar to Norton Commander
- Explorer perspective similar to Windows Explorer
- Search perspective with advance filtering based on name, tag, type …
Each perspective has a panel that can have multiple tabs with views. A view can show data i.e. folders and files in multiple modes:
- Table or grid mode which can be easily sorted and filtered
- Gallery mode which displays thumbnails of files
- Preview mode which renders the file in full size so we can see images, text, web pages, videos, pdfs and more

Metadata
There are two ways to make files or folders visible in the search
- To index them. One or more files and folders can be marked and with one click they are added to the index along with all subfolders.
- To add metadata to them. Metadata can be added to all files, regardless of type, through a simple and intuitive dialog.
- Metadata are tags, categories, ratings, bookmarks and comments

Viewer
The file has a built-in Viewer
Navigation through the viewer is simple and intuitive via the keyboard or toolbar.
The viewer can display images, videos, audio, pdf documents, web pages, text files, source code.

Search
There are two types of file searches
- The first searches for specific files in a folder and subfolders. It can be searched by file name, type, size, or creation time
- The second searches the metadata database and can find all files that are indexed or have metadata i.e. tags, category, comment, rating or rating
